Free Denny's Grand Slam Today!

Denny's is giving away free Original Grand Slam breakfasts again today from 6am to 2pm! (i.e. Today is probably not the best day to visit a Denny's.) To Denny's credit, they try to serve as many people as possible whereas Levi Strauss & Co. misled people with their Super Bowl ad for free pants. Dockers omitted the part where they're only free if you win a pair.

Super Bowl XLIV Ads

It's always great when the game is better than the commercials. Super Bowl XLIV did not disappoint (unless you were cheering for the Colts). This Apple fan noticed that Motorola recruited Megan Fox for their MOTOBLUR ad. It'll be interesting to see if she gets caught with one of their phones in the future... On the topic of sex sells, Go Daddy's tactless (not even going to link to them) ads are now somewhat comical with Danica Patrick portrayed as being annoyed by all of the wannabe Go Daddy Girls. Google spent a lot of money on a boring ad. The best one, IMHO, is the Doritos "Underdog" ad.

Legion

Unfortunately, or fortunately for his sake, Christopher Walken does not make an appearance in Legion. An angel named Michael flies down from heaven, cuts off his wings (for no apparent reason), steals a bunch of weapons and a police car, and proceeds to a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. It seems that God has lost faith in man again so he's sending zombies and angels to kill the baby of the truck stop diner's unwed waitress. In the end, it turns out that God was really messing with another angel named Gabriel at the expense of many hapless human lives and the City of Los Angeles (groan).

Pepsi Throwback Redux

Pepsi Throwback is back in force this year (until February 22nd) thanks to popular demand! The "more rad vintage" can design is definitely cooler than the original look. Hopefully, the Pepsi generations who weren't around when the soda was made with real sugar instead of HFCS won't be thrown-off by the tagline. "Throwback" taken out of context could evoke thoughts of something unwanted as opposed to a retro blast from the past. Here's hoping real sugar makes a comeback for good instead of for limited time promotions and Passover.

Star Trek: Nemesis

AMC reminded this TNG fan why Star Trek: Nemesis is the weakest even-numbered motion picture of the franchise. It's unfortunate that The Next Generation crew didn't get to go out with the blockbuster budget afforded the 11th film. Instead we got a movie that's barely better than some of the best television episodes. There's no closure compared to the classy send-off of the original series crew, or even The Next Generation TV series finale. It's no wonder that Nemesis has the dubious distinction of being the lowest grossing Trek despite being lightyears better than the prior installment.

Nexus One 2.1-update1

Tired of waiting for Google to push the latest Nexus One firmware update OTA? It's probably worth the wait. Manually installing the update is somewhat of a pain that involves using the fastboot tool to unlock the Nexus One's bootloader, a procedure that's sanctioned by Google, but voids its warranty nonetheless. fastboot wipes the device's memory! Reboot the Nexus One into its BIOS-like bootloader by powering it off, and then holding down the trackball and power button so fastboot can find the connected device. Once the bootloader is unlocked, follow these instructions to update the Nexus One's firmware, a process that should leave the device's memory intact for those who already had an unlocked bootloader.

iPhone OS 3.1.3 Software Update

iPhone OS 3.1.3 Software Update, mainly a collection of minor security updates for the iPhone and iPod touch, installed via iTunes without a hitch. So far, the only noticeable improvement is that the iPhone 3G S seems a little bit snappier.

ClickToFlash

ClickToFlash is a convenient little plug-in for Safari that blocks all manner of Flash unless it's absolutely necessary. Apple should build this sort of functionality into Safari in order to encourage Adobe to enhance Flash Player so it sucks less.

Stephen Colbert Wore An iPad To The Grammys!

Apple gets awesome product placement! Stephen Colbert whipped out an iPad last night at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in order to announce the nominees for Song Of The Year.

P.S. "Honey" in the audience is Colbert's daughter, Madeline, in case anyone thought he's dating Leelee Sobieski.

The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli is a movie about a post-apocalyptic U.S. Eli, played by Denzel Washington, has been walking (for 30 years!) to the West Coast. He ventures into a town run by Gary Oldman's "Carnegie" who's searching for a copy of the Bible because he believes he can use it to reboot civilization. Apparently, almost all copies of one of the world's most populous books have been destroyed in a Fahrenheit 451 orgy. Guess what Eli has with him. Unfortunately, the film falls flat with the exception of some Dan Inosanto hand-to-hand combat scenes, and Jennifer Beals still looking fantastic.
