The Xbox LIVE Fall 2009 Update fails to be much more than the following:
- The Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace now carries the tainted Zune brand.
- Plasma TV owners can now burn the Last.fm logo into their screens.
- Facebook fans can be flummoxed by the f'd up Facebook app.
- At least the uninspired Twitter app didn't require an individual download, as with the aforementioned trio of updates.
One wonders why Microsoft didn't just bestow the 360 with a
web browser. (Sony actually has the right idea albeit the neglected
browser on the PS3 needs some attention.) Loading IE and
Silverlight onto the Xbox would be a great way to juice the market share for both the software and the hardware. More importantly, it would deliver a better experience, especially since Redmond seems to have half-assed this year's update compared to
NXE 2008.
