Replaced the stolen Dash with the TomTom car kit for iPhone. (The iPhone doesn't stay in the car so there's nothing to steal.) The car kit is a slick little package with only the following minor nits so far:
- The volume from the mini-stereo aux out port seems stuck at max. TomTom support says that it's controllable using the TomTom app (sold separately), but the app's volume control slider doesn't appear to work either. The hardware volume control dial only affects levels from the kit's built-in speaker.
- Speaking of the aux out port, it doesn't route phone call audio, probably because calls are connected to the kit via Bluetooth. At least the kit's built-in speaker is quite loud, and its built-in mic works well enough too.
- Unfortunately, Bluetooth connections are lost when power to the kit is cut (e.g. when the car is turned completely off).
- Bluetooth connections are not always established when the iPhone is docked. Making sure that the iPhone is unlocked before docking it is not necessary, but seems to improve the likelihood of success.
- Finally, it would be nice if the arm between the suction disk and cradle were slightly longer. Was spoiled by the flexibility of the Dash's PanaVise mount.
