St. Louis Wins 2011 World Series

Two former Oakland Athletics coaches, Tony La Russa and Ron Washington, battled for this year's MLB World Series Championship. La Russa's team, the St. Louise Cardinals, came away with the trophy after gaining momentum by winning a thrilling Game 6. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers—who have never won a World Series—lost their second consecutive trip to it.

RIP Al Davis

This football fan can't watch the Raiders on television if their home game fails to sell out, but one can't deny the mark that Al Davis has made on one of the most entertaining professional sports in America. True to his word, Mr. Davis did not retire until his death, which came before his team won two more Super Bowls. Perhaps his passing will help motivate Oakland to beat the odds today against the Texans...

Giants Eliminated :(

So sad... The San Francisco Giants were eliminated from postseason contention after losing again to Arizona last night in a total rout. Having already lost the NL West to the D-Backs, SF coverage has officially been relegated to the AP by ESPN. Attending the last game of the season this Wednesday will be far less dramatic than last year.

Nike MAG

It's 2011, and Nike is making amends for their 2008 Hyperdunk Supreme tragedy with the release of Nike MAG. The MAG's are more exact replicas of the kicks worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part II. Unfortunately, they're extremely limited edition, and being auctioned off at 2015 prices. Proceeds do benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

49ers Beat Seahawks!

It wasn't pretty, but San Francisco managed to beat Seattle in their season opener yesterday against a division opponent. (It'll be truly impressive if the Niners win again when they meet in Washington.) Alex Smith avoided interceptions, but he was devoid of any TD's save for a scrappy scrable into the endzone. Better special teams units aren't going to let Ted Ginn Jr. run back two TD's every game.  P.S. Raiders on MNF tonight!

Shoot!

As in d'oh... Japan won the FIFA Women's World Cup Final Germany 2011™ in PK's after the U.S. blew a bunch of golden opportunities to score goals. At least there's small consolation that their win is a wonderful morale boost for the country of Japan, which is still recovering from 3/11.

Mavericks Extinguish Heat

Peja pulled a "LeGone" again during The Finals, but—lucky for him—he plays with the Dallas Mavericks. Class has prevailed over hubris. Miami will have to wait another year before they can try to start a dynasty (assuming their team doesn't implode during the offseason). LeBron fans have even more reason to seriously STFU now about who's the greatest basketball player of modern time since Jordan won with authority during his first appearance in The Finals with a team that became a dynasty.

NBA Finals 2011 – Game 2

Oh my... This Kings fan has never been more excited to watch the Mavs win a game! The new TV arrived just in time to display an awesome come-from-behind victory last night that bodes well for an exciting Finals. There's renewed hope for Peja Stojakovic to finally win an NBA title despite falling back into his ineffectual championship series slump.

NBA Finals 2011 – Game 1

*sigh* LeBron James plus Dwayne Wade might be invincible, or at least a near impossible combo for the Mavs to overcome in a seven game championship series. Oh well, maybe Mike Bibby will finally win an NBA title, as will the last active player of the Fab Five... Dallas also no longer has to worry about winning the first two games, and then blowing the next four circa 2006. :p
